Culture
The Jamdani weaving of Rupganj is on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Sonargaon hosts an annual folk festival and crafts fair.
History
Sonargaon was a capital of Sultanate Bengal and the stronghold of Isa Khan, leader of the Baro-Bhuiyans. In British times Narayanganj's jute trade earned it the name 'Dundee of the East'.
How to get there
About 1 hour by road from Dhaka; local trains also run Dhaka–Narayanganj.
